FAQ

What is the Zora Network?

The Zora Network is a fast, cost-efficient, and scalable Layer 2 built to help bring media onchain. Zora Network is built on the open-source OP Stack, maintained by the Optimism Collective. You can learn more about the OP Stack here. Although Zora developed and released the Zora Network software, Zora does not operate the Zora Network itself.

What is an Ethereum Layer 2?

An Ethereum Layer 2 is a secondary network built on top of Ethereum and helps it handle more activity, like adding more lanes to a highway. Layer 2 makes Ethereum faster and cheaper to use by handling many transactions off Ethereum and only summarizing them on Ethereum.

Can I use my existing Ethereum wallet on Zora?

For the most part, yes, wallets like Metamask and Rainbow will function normally on Zora Network. However, certain wallets might not support adding custom networks and won’t allow you to connect your wallet to the Zora network.

What is the asset used to pay for transaction fees?

ETH. You will need to transfer, or “bridge” ETH to the Zora Network to transact on Zora Network. When you bridge your ETH from Ethereum to Zora Network, you will receive ETH on the Zora Network. There is no issuance of a new or wrapped version of a token or asset.

What is bridging?

A blockchain bridge is a tool that connects two separate blockchain networks to enable assets to be transferred between them, just like a ferry carrying people across a river. Zora Network's native bridge allows you to transfer your ETH from Ethereum to the Zora Network.

How long does it take to bridge?

It can take about 1-2 minutes for the assets bridged from Ethereum to Zora Network to show up in your wallet on the Zora Network. However, keep in mind that the time it takes to bridge can be impacted by congestion on Ethereum Layer 1.

Bridging ETH from Zora Network back to the Ethereum mainnet takes ~7 days to complete successfully. You may be able to withdraw your ETH faster using a third party bridge, but make sure you do your research to understand cost and risk considerations before utilizing a third party bridge. More details about the bridging process and options are available here.

How much does it cost to mint an NFT?

Transaction fees can vary depending on how busy the network is, but normally it should cost less than $0.50 to mint.

Is the Zora Network secure?

Zora Network is designed to be secure by inheriting the security of Ethereum mainnet and is built using the OP Stack.
